Chapter Thirteen
Danielle
Several hours later, I woke up to the smell of food. I got out of bed and walked over to Maddie’s bassinet, it was empty. Ronny must have her, I thought to myself. I grabbed my house shirt and headed for downstairs. The smell of the food was captivating. When I got in the kitchen, JT was feeding Maddy, Ronny was chopping vegetables, and Daniel was grilling some chicken breasts.
I walked over to him and said, “It wasn’t a dream, you came back.”
I kissed him on the lips and he pulled back.
I looked at him strange and asked, “What’s wrong?”
He pulled me to him and whispered in my ear, “I told your sisters we were just friends.”
“Well, you should have never lied to them,” and I pulled him in for another kiss.
This time he didn’t resist.
“I miss you so much.” I said between kisses.
“I miss you too, baby girl.”
“Damn, y’all need to go upstairs?” Ronny asked breaking our reunion.
I took my finger and ran it across Daniel’s lips.
“Nawl, we’re good. We have the rest of our lives to be together.”
I sat down next to JT and reached for Maddy.
JT gave her to me and said, “How are you feeling, baby sis?”
“I’m a little better, but we’ll see after I eat this.”
Soon dinner was done, and we all sat around the dining room table, ate, laughed, and talked. Daniel fit right in with my sister and her girlfriend, unlike Percival who would say that she made him feel uneasy.
Later that night we went to bed. Daniel stayed the night like he promised. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I really wanted to be with Daniel, but I had made vows to be with Percival. I pray that the Lord help me through this.
That next morning I woke up to the sound of someone throwing up in the restroom. I got out of bed and went toward the restroom. When I opened the door, I saw Daniel bend over the toilet vomiting.
He looked over at me and said, “Are you pregnant?”
I just stood there and stared at him for a moment, not knowing what to say. Could I be? I asked myself.
Daniel stood up and walked over to the sink where he rinsed his mouth out.
Answering his question, I said, “No, I don’t believe I am.”
The look of fear on my face must have spoken louder than I thought because Daniel pulled me closer to him and said, “If you are, that’s not a bad thing. I want more kids with you.”
“Da-Daniel I-I just couldn’t be pregnant, I’m married.” I stammered.
“We both know that you are married, but that haven’t stopped us from having unprotected sex.” He whispered to me as if he didn’t want anybody to know.
Then it hit me, the last time we had sex, was weeks ago. I just could be pregnant.
“What will I tell Percival?” I asked him.
“Shid, tell him the truth, that while he was out playing doctor, you found someone that will love you and Maddie.
